“By the ˹passage of˺ time! Surely humanity is in ˹grave˺ loss, except those who have faith, do good, and urge each other to the truth, and urge each other to perseverance.” [Quran 103: 1-3]
In Surah Al-Asr, Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala take an oath by time, which indicates the value of time in human’s lives. The surah is a reminder that each moment brings us closer to our inevitable end, highlighting the importance of time. For Muslim women, who bear various responsibilities, effective time management is paramount. To embody wisdom as a Muslimah, wife, daughter, and mother, one must utilise time efficiently. Women are esteemed gems within the ummah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), entrusted with significant roles, and wasting this opportunity through inaction or wrongdoing results in profound loss. Surah Asr illuminates the path to success and underscores the value of time from a faith-based perspective. After taking an oath by time, Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala says, “Surely humanity is in ˹grave˺ loss, except those who –
1- Have Faith.
2- Do good.
3- Urge each other to the truth, and urge each other to perseverance.
Therefore, we learn from Surah Asr that the one who adopts the following courses in this life, utilises his time properly.
1- One who has Faith i.e. consciousness of Truth or reality and its acceptance.
2- Virtuous deeds i.e. doing that which is required to be done as a matter of religious duty and abstaining from what is sinful.
3- Advising people about Truth and forbearance.
The question is, with many responsibilities, how can a Muslim woman prioritise her tasks to use her time wisely according to Quranic teachings and become a wise Muslimah? By organising her priorities into the following hierarchy, she can achieve significant things In’Sha’Allah.

1- Most Important: (Not overlooked – For example: Obligatory worship, reciting Quran, fasting in the month of Ramadan, health, good diet, family, and rest etc.)
2- Fairly Important
3- Slightly Important
